CryoEM Imaging Service—Aquilos Dual Beam Microscope

Cryo-electron microscopy (CryoEM) applies cryo-fixation technology to observe samples with a transmission electron microscope at low temperatures, to obtain the microscopic technology of the structure of biological macromolecules. After the piece is frozen and placed in the electron microscope, the electrons are scattered through the sample and the nearby ice layer. Use the detector and lens system to image and record the scattered signal, then process the signal, and finally use the three-dimensional reconstruction technology to obtain the three-dimensional structure of the sample. CryoEM imaging services are provided by CD BioSciences based on Aquilos Dual Beam Microscope.

Aquilos Dual Beam Microscope

Summary

This electron microscope is equipped with both an electron beam and a Gallium ion beam. The Gallium beam is used to mill away the excess material in order to create thin lamellae from frozen cells, for further visualization in the transmission electron microscopes. The electron beam is typically used to monitor the milling process, but the microscope can also be used as a typical scanning electron microscope.

CD BioSciences offers its customers the CryoEM imaging service based on Aquilos Dual Beam Microscope to help analyze the 3D structure and microstructure of samples. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us.
