The Nanodrop Spectrophotometer measures the absorbance of 2 microliter samples in a system that does not require cuvettes. The sample is a drop of liquid, trapped as a column between two fiber-optic pedestals. The instrument measures absorbance with light paths of 1 mm and/or 0.2 mm but the software has special options for measuring protein,DNA,RNA, by direct absorbance as well as for several common colorimetric protein assays.
