The Ultrasonic Processor ("Sonicator") uses high frequency "sound" waves to disrupt the sample. A probe-type sonicator rather than a bath-type device, it can apply very high energy to samples as small as 1 mL. It is frequently used for disrupting microorganism cells, but can also be used for small-scale materials processing.
