Optical microscopy, allows us to see and understand the microscopic world beyond our perception. Today, optical microscopy is at the heart of many scientific and technical fields, including life sciences, biology, materials science, nanotechnology, industrial inspection, medicine, and many more. The Olympus IX73 inverted optical microscope features 10×, 20×, Phase LWD 20× (for plasticware), 40×, and 100× (oil) lenses. The capabilities include Nomarski differential interference contrast (DIC), Phase, fluorescence and brighfield microscopy.
Five long-pass filters are available for fluorescence microscopy. These filters and examples of the fluorophores for which they can be used are:
1. Ultra-violet (UV) : DAPI
2. Blue-violet (BV) : Lucifer yellow
3. Intermediate blue (IB) : GFP, EGFP, FITC, Alexa 488
4. Intermediate green (IG) : CY3, DS red, TRITC, RITC
5. CY5: CY5
The Olympus IX73 Inverted Microscope is equipped with a colour camera for light microscopy and can also capture fluorescent images with standard wavelength filters. The stage accommodates microscope slides, multi-well plates, flasks, and petri plates. A dedicated computer has the Olympus cellSens software for imaging.
