2) General imaging
1. Cardiac morphology and function, blood flow
2. Angiogenesis, inflammation
3. Functional and molecular vascular imaging of superficially localized tissues like skeletal muscle, subcutaneous tumors, and the brain
4. Kidney research: renal blood flow (ischemic-reperfusion-injury mouse model)
5. Liver imaging (hepatic blood flow, tumor size, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease)
6. Guided injections (joints, uterus)
7. Cancer research (sentinel lymph node)
8. Cranial (brain development, transcranial ultrasound)
1. Ultrasound is unique in its ability of real-time imaging (particularly useful in cardiology for assessing cardiac function and fluid dynamics)
2. Multiple modes available: B-mode, M-mode, Doppler (color, PW, tissue)
3. Imaging multiple time points and targets
4. Excellent spatial resolution (≤ 100 µm)
5. Contrast agents available (microbubbles) for tissue perfusion
6. Cost and time effective
We houses the ultrasound Vevo 2100 (Fujifilm Visualsonics Inc.). This unique technology allows acquiring real time images with high resolution for structural and functional imaging. It is perfect for assessing heart anatomy and function (echocardiography) in mice and rats. Transducers ranging from 13 to 55 MHz are available for imaging of vascular tumors (up to 14 mm) to large tumors (<250g) along cardiovascular imaging. Multiple modes allow for additional analysis of blood flow and pressure.
